The old telephone exchange of Roermond has been transformed into a unique hotel extension of TheaterHotel De Oranjerie. In addition to an increase in the number of rooms, this also means an expansion and enhancement of our facilities. From May 2024, you are warmly invited to the PTT Hotel.

The building, located next to the current TheaterHotel De Oranjerie, has its origins in the post-war automation of telecommunications by the State Enterprise of Post, Telegraph, and Telephone (PTT), which took place in the early 1960s. In 2019, Roermond received a new, fully automated telephone exchange based on fiber optics, and the old exchange, where all the copper lines from Roermond and its surroundings converged, was dismantled.

In the place where the PTT operators once routed calls amidst a tangle of telephone wires, you can now - after extensive renovation and refurbishment - enjoy peace and luxury.

The renovation of the theater marked the beginning of a complete renovation and expansion of TheaterHotel De Oranjerie in the center of Roermond. Recently, we have witnessed the first visible changes.

These include the new theater hall, foyer, as well as the extension behind the theater and the spectacular 'Le Jardin'. The most significant change will come with the completion of the old telephone exchange. The building with its floor-to-ceiling windows and characteristic old elements is ideally suited for repurposing into a unique hotel concept. This is something we successfully achieved with Het Arresthuis in the past - transforming an old prison into a hotel - and now, from an old telephone exchange into a brand-new hotel extension with an indoor pool, fitness, and wellness.

The entire building has been made sustainable and equipped with every from of comfort. The transformation into a hotel has resulted in 44 special and high-quality rooms. However, the old building presented numerous challenges. Working with existing structures required careful planning and adjustments, resulting in the addition of six room types. From cozy lofts and luxurious rooms to complete suites with double showers and wellness baths.

During the transformation into a hotel, attention was paid to preserving the old elements of the building. This includes the high ceilings and windows, the entrance, the staircase, as well as the unique steel partitions and doors. Where possible, these have been preserved or reintegrated in a new form. A glass corridor connects the new hotel extension with the main building of TheaterHotel De Oranjerie. This provides guests with the experience of a beautiful and intimate boutique hotel on one hand, while on the other hand, they can enjoy the diversity and facilities of a large city hotel.
